    1.  “Rain and Dew” Program Cultivates Village Food Culture.
     
    On August 13th, in Jiefang Village, Xialiang Town, Zhashui County, a training class on cooking and travel service was held jointly by the Bureau of Poverty Relief and Development of Zhashui County, Shaanxi province and Xinchao Vocational and Technical College in Shangluo city. More than 70 villagers took part in the opening ceremony and the demo session for practical skills. The training class will help cultivate food culture among local villagers.

    2.  Six Measures adopted by Chongqing to Help the Poor Relocate.
     
    Based on 400 million yuan of poverty-relief fund allocated to districts and counties, Chongqing Poverty Relief Office took six measures to help poor people relocate with the following focus. The first one is to well-target on poverty population. The second is to prioritize county-level subsidies to aid the poor. The third is to issue small-sum subsidized poverty alleviation loans. The fourth is to subsidize poor families to develop businesses. The fifth is to start the training of practical skills to facilitate employment and business start-ups. The last is to conduct “one-one-one” aid at city and district levels.

    3.  Xingtai Yields Initial Results from Ecological Poverty Relief Program.
     
    Xingtai always insists on the idea of ecological poverty relief concept and values high-quality fruit industry as an effective means for poverty relief, which can generate an additional total income of one billion yuan for local poverty population during harvest season every year. The government also proposed to develop agricultural tours into a new form of industry, change the traditional farming model that only focuses on planting field crops into developing nursery industry, and afforest the barren mountains to improve the ecological environment.

    4.  Qinghai Province Plans to Appoint Full-time (Part-time) Secretaries for Poverty Relief in 360 Townships.
     
    As efforts into Qinghai’s poverty relief enter a new crucial stage, the Qinghai government will send full-time or part-time secretaries for poverty relief work to 360 townships in all of its 42 counties. They will be led by township party committees, local governments as well as poverty relief and development departments at the county level. The secretaries will be in position by the end of August. The Poverty Relief and Development Bureau of Qinghai will facilitate the funding, equipments, and the capacity building.

    5.Demonstration Bases for Poverty Relief through Industrial Development in Guangxi Reaches 40.
     
    Guangxi government invested more than 460 million yuan in industries for poverty relief in the first half of this year, accounting for 34.24% of the total special fund for poverty relief. With a larger investment scale, the number of demonstration bases for poverty relief through industrial development in “Ten, Hundred and Thousand project” has increased to 40 from 25 in 2012. Driven by the demonstration bases and leading enterprises, poverty relief through industrial development in Guangxi has accelerated remarkably. Projects completed during the first half of this year include: the project of 428 thousand mu of special and advantageous crops, the project of transforming 315 thousand mu from low-yielding to high-yielding fields, as well as the projects of raising 1.919 million poultry, 42.9 thousand livestock, and 328 thousand kg of aquiculture.

    6.Guizhou Poverty Relief Office Urgently Allocates 15.5 Million yuan as Special Fund for Drought Relief.
     
    Guizhou Poverty Relief Office urgently allocated 15.5 million yuan of special poverty relief fund to relieve drought and improve agricultural production in poor areas. The fund was mainly used to buy seedlings (seeds), fertilizers, pesticides, drought-resistant machines and tools (machine oil) for drought relief and production restoration. Crops suitable for planting and with a shorter growing period such as potato and buckwheat are given top priority during the fund allocation to make up for the financial loss due to the disaster.
