    Xi Jinping: poverty alleviation is the mission of mankind. On October 16, 2015 Global Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development Forum was held at the Golden Hall of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. President Xi Jinping attended the forum and delivered a keynote speech, in which he pointed out that poverty alleviation is the mission of mankind. While committed to domestic poverty alleviation, China continuously and vigorously promotes South-South cooperation and offers aid to other developing countries with no political strings attached within its own capacity so as to support and help developing countries, especially the least-developed countries to shake off poverty.

    Xi Jinping: China will see over 70 million impoverished people lifted out of poverty in next five years. On October 16, President Xi Jinping attended the 2015 Global Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development Forum and delivered an important speech. Xi pointed out that currently, Chinese people are striving to build a moderately prosperous society in an all-round manner and realize the Chinese dream of rejuvenating the Chinese nation. China's goal is to lift all of its 70 million impoverished people who currently live under the poverty line out of poverty in five years. The key to China’s poverty alleviation efforts is to take targeted measures in poverty alleviation, locate the “root of poverty”, suit poverty alleviation measures to the situation and use targeted approaches.

    Formulation of the criteria for the exit of poverty-stricken counties is underway by the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development (LGOP). On October 17, Liu Yongfu, Director of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development said that formulation of the criteria for the exit of poverty-stricken counties is underway and by 2020, 592 poverty-stricken counties must “remove the title”.

    Local Poverty Alleviation News: 
    A new mode of poverty alleviation featuring with joint efforts by private enterprises was launched in Guangxi Province. On October 17, over 300 private enterprises in Guangxi Province co-established the Guangxi Poverty Alleviation Entrepreneurial Industrial Development Association, marking the launch of a new mode of poverty alleviation featuring joint efforts by private enterprises. With innovation and entrepreneurship as the main thread and the cooperation between villages and enterprises as the key, the new mode stands out for having private enterprises help impoverished villages shake off poverty and become rich through approaches such as industrial investment, thus achieving the effect of poverty alleviation with the help of different kinds of enterprises, through different approaches and in an all-win situation.

    A total of 25,000 people were lifted out of poverty in Anhua County, Hunan Province due to the development of the dark tea industry last year. Anhua County, Hunan Province explored the point of conjunction between industrial development and poverty alleviation efforts, thus realizing the co-existence and win-win situation between industrial development and targeted poverty alleviation. According to statistics, 24,720 impoverished people in the county were lifted out of poverty through the development of dark tea industry in 2014.

    Yibin City, Sichuan Province: hundreds of medical workers were engaged in offering free medical treatment on “Poverty Alleviation Day”. Some medical units, including the Third People’s Hospital of Yibin, conducted free medical treatment at different designated villages that are in need of help, delivering medical care and medicine to villagers and spreading knowledge of health and disease prevention. A total of 108 medical workers from 3 mobile medical expert teams belonging to hospitals of the district and 22 mobile medical teams sent by community-level medical and health institutions offered free medical services to local people, including blood pressure measurement for over 1,200 person times, blood glucose for over 760 person times, medical consultation and inquiry for over 1,700 person times and handed out more than 3,500 publicity materials of health knowledge and disease prevention.

    Public Poverty Alleviation and Charity News:
    The public-welfare activity “24-Hour Hunger” held by China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) kicked off. The activity is designed to call for more attention to poverty and help children who are suffering from starvation. It is reported that 50% of the money raised by this activity will be allocated to the Nutritious Meal Program, which was established by CFPA to provide extra nutritious meals to children in impoverished regions in China; another 50% will be used to fund the Smiling Children Project established by CFPA, which was aimed at offering lunch to starved children in Sudan.
