President Xi Jinping stressed that extraordinary measures and solid solutions should be adopted in combating poverty when speaking at a symposium held in Zhejiang Province where leading Party officials from seven provinces of East China were present. Xi also pointed out that the government should reduce and abolish poverty with targeted measures and win the battle of poverty reduction through combined policies as scheduled.

In a meeting with the delegation of executive directors from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli pointed out that China would continue to support ADB's efforts in development and poverty reduction in the Asian-Pacific region. Vice Premier Zhang hoped that ADB could center on China's reform and poverty reduction, and offer full support to China's major development strategies through loan programs.

Shanxi Province will expand its pilot projects of poverty reduction through photovoltaic (PV) programs to 36 state-supported poverty-stricken counties. Shanxi has been listed as one of the first pilot provinces in poverty reduction through PV programs. Taking this great opportunity, well-known companies in the PV industry, including three SOEs in Shanxi Province such as Lu'an Group and six enterprises from other provinces such as Yingli Solar, all strive to play an active role in the establishment of ground-mounted photovoltaic power stations.Meanwhile, Shanxi Province has applied to the National Energy Administration for 500MW grid connection and will expand the pilot project to 36 state-supported poverty-stricken counties.

This year, Gansu Province will set up 939 kindergartens in administrative villages with a population of over 2,000 in 58
poverty-stricken counties, which aims to achieve a gross kindergarten enrollment ratio of 55% in three-year preschool education in poverty-stricken counties. Meanwhile, 3600 teachers will be recruited this year and sent to the newly-built rural kindergartens.

Pilot project of poverty reduction through e-commerce will be launched in 450 impoverished villages in Longnan, Gansu Province.As one of the top ten targeted poverty-alleviation projects in 2015, this project will provide more channels for income growth and boost the local industrial upgrading. Longnan, the first pilot city for e-commerce based poverty reduction, will select 450 impoverished villages in 9 counties and districts to carry out these pilot programs.

The “One World Football” Project sponsored by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation donated ultra-durable footballs to schools in impoverished areas in Hunan Province. Launched in Hunan, this project will donate 11,790 footballs to 167 primary and secondary schools in 12 cities and autonomous prefectures in contiguous destitute areas including Wuling Mountainous Area and Luoxiao Mountainous Area. The project will benefit over 300,000 students in 51 poverty-stricken districts and counties.
